It is based upon the Colt 1911 and intended for import to the USA. It is not popular in Europe, but very popular in Canada, Mexico and South America where pistols in military chamberings have been prohibited.' Another reference I have indicates that Llama made a model VIII-C in 38 Super. The Thompson submachine gun was once available in 38 Super chambering. This is a fine high-speed sporting cartridge for the improved Government Model automatic pistol, but should not be used in older Colt pocket models. What do you fellows think it's worth today? According to 'Cartridges of The Wold', 10th Edition:'38 Super Automatic - Introduced by Colt in 1929 as an improved version of the older 38 Auto, the Super Auto is identical to the original cartridge except that it uses a more powerful loading. I remember reading somewhere many years ago that this gun would fire both 9mm Luger and.38 Super, but it's clearly marked ' CAL.38 Super Automatic.' Checkered grips are sharp to the touch and unmarked, with original finish. I base that on the fact the ammo boxes are still full, the cleaning kit I gave him at the same time is unused, and the gun bears no marks of having been fired. I purchased this gun new in about 1970, and gave it to my stepfather, who has since passed away. This is the one that appears to be a Colt Govt-model semi-auto pistol, except for the vent rib.

A Llama 'Especial'.38 Super automatic pistol with vent rib, serial # 455955. What should I have to worry about? Durability? reliability? Everything? I could pay double and get a Colt, but if there's nothing really wrong with the Auto ordnance, i'd be happy with it.ĭrown me with west hurley auto ordnance info please! I want to make an informed decision and NOT buy a sh**e gun.OK, here's another one. In other words, the scant info on this gun i could find was contradictory. The gun has a brushed blue finish and looks nice to my eye, but I've heard everything from the west hurley's having all cast parts (including slide and frame) and being total junk to the west hurleys having a machined slide and frame and not being bad. Here is the listing > (if anyone "steals" it off me, i'll be sore with you) The serial number is actually pretty nice I think.

I believe it was made in the early eighties. The serial number starts with "AOC" and is well under 50,000, if that info is relevant.

I have an opportunity to buy a west hurley auto ordnance 1911.
